5 Easy Steps To EPIC Content Marketing

5 Easy Steps To EPIC Content Marketing | Content marketing automation | Scoop.it
Content marketing is a noisy world now. You must create EPIC content marketing to win. Here are 5 EASY Steps to begin your EPIC content journey.

Via Ally Greer
Guillaume Decugis's insight:

Content Marketing has grown up fast and @Martin (Marty) Smith gives some great advice in this post. One of these is what he calls COPE for Create Once Publish Everywhere which I think is a great #leancontent rule:

1. Because everytime you can remix your own content, you should: this is not being boring, this is acknowledging that the world is vast and that people are busy so they might not be reading your tweet just because you shared something.

2. Content curation or creation only works if it's coupled with strong distribution.

3. SEO and social shares are tightly correlated.

Ally Greer's curator insight, February 25, 2014 2:24 PM

This post by @Martin (Marty) Smith takes into consideration a lot of the ideas of lean content, as he has crafted some content marketing tips based upon the ideas of Eric Reis's Lean Startup.

My favorite tip, one that Marty talks about often, is COPE, or create once publish everywhere, which is a huge part of the lean content methodology. One thing that I'd add to make this description a little more detailed is not only to publish the same content everywhere, but to adapt it to the place to which you're going to post it. This diversifies the content and not only allows higher distribution but adds value in multiple ways!

Also, thanks for the Scoop.it mention, Marty!

18 Social Media SEO Resources to Improve Your Search Ranking

18 Social Media SEO Resources to Improve Your Search Ranking | Content marketing automation | Scoop.it

Do you know how social media impacts SEO? Are your own search and social efforts aligned?

For many marketers, it’s not always clear how social media impacts search engine optimization.

In this article you’ll find numerous resources to help you understand how social media SEO works.

Via Kamal Bennani
Guillaume Decugis's insight:

Great recap of what you should have in mind to align your social and SEO efforts. Some of them are easy to implement tips, some of them are harder to embrace. In particular, the #1 - "publish high quality content".

The reality is that no matter how many tips you receive or how many times you're being told to publish high quality content, creating content remains hard.

For busy professionals and businesses however, curating relevant content on your areas of expertise is more accessible: you're probably reading a lot of the content worth sharing anyway so you're just a few clicks away from publishing it and making an impact with it.

What are 4 Key Goals in Content Marketing?

What are 4 Key Goals in Content Marketing? | Content marketing automation | Scoop.it
The ultimate goal of content marketing is to be so engaging that your customers will eventually buy, but before you get that far you need to achieve one of these 4 foundational objectives to attract interest, increase page views and maintain reader loyalty.

Via AnotherBajanSuccess
Guillaume Decugis's insight:

Content Marketing is about becoming a media. But in my opinion, there are two ways to fail when companies or organizations try to become one:

- first, a common mistake is to try to be a media "20th century style", ie produce every single piece of content they publish;

- two, think it's all about news.

As Jeff Bullas reminds us in this post, to inform is just one of the key goals you can set for your content strategy. Entertaining and inspiring your target audience as Red Bull magnificently does or educating it as a lot of B2B players also do very well are also great ways to derive brand value, leads or any other benefits you can expect from your content strategy.

With that in mind, it's much easier to understand why being objective is not a necessity content marketers have (unlike news reporters) and also why curating content is as important as creating it.

AnotherBajanSuccess's curator insight, February 13, 2014 6:39 AM

Great article!!! By mastering at least 1 of these goals you will become an authority to your target audience.

Interest-based Content Curation Publishing: the cure for Content Shock?

Interest-based Content Curation Publishing: the cure for Content Shock? | Content marketing automation | Scoop.it

In a recent post, top content marketer and blogger Mark Schaefer scored a hit and started a big controversy by predicting the end of content marketing as we know it because of a forecasted Content Shock. With Content Marketing having been all the rage these past few years, his post made some noise generating responses and debate from many. And while a lot of people have given numerous arguments as to why he’s right or wrong – including Shel Holtz who argues that as content consumers we become better and better at filtering content through various curation tools – nobody yet has looked at the role publishing-by-curation and the interest graph played in that picture.

Guillaume Decugis's insight:

In a recent debate, some have predicted the end of content marketing as we know it because of the exponential growth of content.

I disagree and I explained why in this post on the Scoop.it blog.

Editorialized content curation = SEO gold.

Editorialized content curation = SEO gold. | Content marketing automation | Scoop.it

One of the effects of the rise of popularity in content marketing has been a surge in content curation; the practice of aggregating similar content into one place in an attempt to create new value.

Ally Greer's insight:

In an experiment conducted by PublishThis, content marketers found that content curated with auto-generated summaries (no original content) dropped in SEO rankings, while content curated along with a 200-word editorial by the curator rose to the second position in rankings.

The lesson: curation is an excellent strategy to increase SEO rankings given that it's done right - aggregation can seem useful in providing lots of content, but it's ultimately a non-value-adding collection of content that means nothing to search engines and even less to readers. When quality content is hand-selected, editorialized, and given value, curation wins audiences and search engines alike.

Once the door has been opened you have a variety of strategies to implement. One of the goals of these strategies  should be to  ultimately lead you or your company  to more interactions and  transactions with the potential or existing customers. Launching Scoop.it for Google+: authorship and posting to Google+ Company pages

Launching Scoop.it for Google+: authorship and posting to Google+ Company pages | Content marketing automation | Scoop.it

While some debate whether Google+ is a ghost town or not, the search giant's social network quietly passed the 1 Billion user mark. That's right: 1 Billion people have a Google+ account which is 2x Twitter's user base and only 15% less than Facebook's. Perhaps more importantly, the +1 button is pressed more than 5 million times a day and 340 million of its users are active.

Scoopiteers didn’t need to wait for those metrics to be public to demand that we add Google+ to the Scoop.it’s sharing options: as our platform is a hub to discover, curate and share content to feed your online channels, it’s natural to offer as many distribution options as possible. So today, after integrating  with Facebook profiles and pages, LinkedIn profiles, groups and pages, Twitter and many other social platform such as Wordpress or Tumblr, we’re excited to launch our integration with Google+ with 2 new features:

- Adding Google+ Company pages as a sharing option to Scoop.it

- Adding Google+ authorship to your Scoop.it profile

How Much Does Content Marketing Cost Your Business?

How Much Does Content Marketing Cost Your Business? | Content marketing automation | Scoop.it

“How Much Does Content Marketing Cost Your Business?”

Guillaume Decugis's insight:

The costs of a thorough content strategy are usually underestimated as this article points out.

But like in any business process there are multiple ways to react to this: outsourcing is of course one and this is what this article is about. From my experience, while outsourcing content ensures the job gets done, it doesn't necessarily reduce the costs drastically as you still have to proofread and control the content freelance writers have produced to ensure they match your brand voice. I was for example discussing the other day with an insurance broker who uses freelance blog writers to come out with weekly posts and who was complaining he had to edit a lot of their initial drafts if he wanted quality. He was also saying freelancers didn't have the ability to react fast as an internal team or employee would.

Introducing a mix of content curation with content creation however significantly reduces the cost while keeping you in control. You're probably already reading a lot about your business, your market and what's interesting for your target audience to read: in short you're already doing 80% of the curation work. Why not leverage it by publishing and sharing this content?

The decay and fall of guest blogging for SEO

The decay and fall of guest blogging for SEO | Content marketing automation | Scoop.it
Okay, I'm calling it: if you're using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop. Why? Because over time it's become a more and more spammy practice, and if you're doin...
Guillaume Decugis's insight:

The head of the Google Webspam team has spoken: guest blogging is now on the hook and won't be an SEO strategy you can rely on in 2014.

Following the demise of massive link building (which now can have adverse effects), this is another strategy once recommended by traditionnal SEO consultants that disappears as part of Google's strategy to fight spam, cheap SEO tricks and promote great quality content in search results. The more Google Search evolves, the more it relies on new criteria such as social signals to promote quality content.

What this means is there's no way around this simple truth now: to come up in search results, you need to publish good quality content and add value - either through great original content or carefully curated quality pieces. And in the race to publish great content frequently, it's likely you will find the latter very useful.

The 3 C’s of Successful Content Marketing

The 3 C’s of Successful Content Marketing | Content marketing automation | Scoop.it

Content marketing is a powerful way to get your audiences attention and trust. It might seem difficult to get started but it’s pretty easy to grasp when you break it down. If you are ever struggling, just remember the 3 C’s of Content Marketing – Create, Curate, and Circulate.

Ally Greer's insight:

The way content marketing is broken down into three C's here makes it seem so simple - and frankly, it is.

Create, Curate, Circulate.

1. Understand your audience and know what they want. Then take that knowledge and make things that will benefit them and that they will find shareworthy.

2. Discover great content related to your field that has already been created by others, add value to it by editorializing, and present it to your readers in a useful, engaging format.

3. Share your content with the world - across all social and traditional marketing channels - multiple times. Don't be afraid to repurpose content, either (in true #leancontent fashion!).

What Makes Quality Content and Genuine Social Engagement

What Makes Quality Content and Genuine Social Engagement | Content marketing automation | Scoop.it

With every algorithm update, Google is making SEO more and more complex. [...] The elements that are regularly highlighted by Google are 'quality content' and 'genuine engagement'.

Guillaume Decugis's insight:

Andrew Hutchinson reminds us of basic but powerful traits of quality content and genuine social engagement - the ways to reach the objectives of a good content strategy.

It starts with what people want to read (not what you want to tell them), it comes from human beings and it needs to be distributed to communities on social networks by human beings.

But as Hutchinson notes, this approach will take time and investment - something most of us don't have. So once again, it's important to note that we not only need to set and repeat quality standards for our content marketing but also find ways to make that whole strategy more efficient. What we really need is not just to be reminded our content needs to be good and our social engagement authentic: we also need lean content strategies such as content repurposing, community-powered content creation and content curation for instance.
