PrintToPeer, Cloud 3D Printing Service Launches on IndieGogo & Announces Partnership with 3D Hubs

PrintToPeer, Cloud 3D Printing Service Launches on IndieGogo & Announces Partnership with 3D Hubs | DIY | Maker | Scoop.it

Just this morning we covered a new product calledAstroPrint, which aims to allow people to wirelessly 3D print objects from their tablets, smartphones, PCs, and laptops. They run on a modified version of a Raspberry Pi, and allow for cloud slicing, gcode creation and organization of 3D designs. Only a few hours later, PrintToPeer has launched their Indiegogo campaign for a very similar product. They advertise as “Your 3D printer on the web”, and that is a pretty accurate description.

3D Printed Fruit is Here, Thanks to Cambridge Company Dovetailed

3D Printed Fruit is Here, Thanks to Cambridge Company Dovetailed | DIY | Maker | Scoop.it

The 3D printing of food is certainly a futuristic concept, but it’s also something that, at this point, not too many people are all that excited about. Sure, it’s awesome for making customized candies like the ChefJet does, or for adding a bit of flair to a cake, but the idea of one day eating a 3D printed steak, or 3D printed pear, doesn’t seem that appealing just yet.

Open Source wearable platforms: time for your own gadgets

Open Source wearable platforms: time for your own gadgets | DIY | Maker | Scoop.it

When I think about the world that we are now living, I have to (I literally must) think about open source technologies, open source frameworks and products such good that became excellent platforms to build your own distrupting software, or board. We are living the same situation with wearable devices, in such a way that I am inclined to think about all of this stuff and easily identify a cyclic, predictable behavior. Once a technology or a concept starts to become part of the traditional software (and hardware) stack, suddenly clones begin to appear; and there’s a strong chance that the first to appear (as the first clone, or even the original product) is open source.

3D Slash

3D Slash | DIY | Maker | Scoop.it
