The Health and Social Care Act 2012, secured explicit recognition from the Secretary of State for Health, to work towards ensuring 'parity of esteem' between physical and mental health, to ensure that people with mental health needs receive the same quality, education and quantity of services as those with physical health needs.
As a result there have been continuous calls for all areas of society to be better informed about how to support, care for and employ people with mental health issues.
And people living with mental health problems have a stronger voice in public debate than ever before, largely through social media. Mental health awareness needs to be a central part of any health and wellbeing agenda.

By ignoring the importance of diversity in the workplace, “you’re going to get lost and left behind.”
According to projections by the U.S. Census Bureau, more than half of Americans will be part of a minority group by 2044. Also, by 2060, about 20 percent of the country will be foreign born. This inevitable diversity of the country means talent will reflect those demographics. If not, potential employees could shy away from a company, making it difficult to recruit talent.

One of the things I’ve been doing for years is using Design Thinking to get greater understanding and adoption when doing any analytics project. It focused the analysis and delivered actionable insights to the right person and in the right way faster than any other method. Recently, I decided to see if I could find some good examples of this approach being used at other companies and, to my delight, I found some excellent examples where, intentional or not, some fabulous companies and teams are using this to get high value results.

Are you sure your workplace is truly happy?
A seemingly happy office is not necessarily a truly happy office. We cannot always see the true nature of social relationships in a workplace environment, yet they play a huge role in the productivity of our businesses.
I recently had meeting with 15 people from different departments of one client’s business. The office itself was beautifully designed; open plan, lots of natural light, fruit baskets dotted all over the place, even a running track on the perimeter. On the surface there was a great atmosphere.

Most crisis plans that are actually completed these days are so complicated and compartmentalized that it defies even the most skillful leader’s abilities to lead effectively. Too many crisis plans focus on external issues and the media rather than providing a simple, sensible, constructive, achievable response strategy. I have advocated for many years the concept of the Grand Strategy to drive crisis response using the Golden Hour metaphor as the driving force.

Elasticity is a safe behaviour: it gives the appearance of being engaged without having to actually engage. It’s the space for ambiguity that allows us to see which way the wind is truly blowing. Constrained organisations will exhibit elasticity at every level: not because people are disengaged, but because they are not fully engaged. They are in a middle space where they are engaged, but not owning. Present, but not invested.
The Dynamic Change framework describes a route to transformation: an early hurdle that it has to overcome is elasticity.
