Your ‘About’ Page is Losing You Money - Here’s How to Fix it

Your ‘About’ Page is Losing You Money - Here’s How to Fix it | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
It’s an easy mistake to make.

You slap some words on your About page, wrench them apart, shovel in a bit fluff, a pinch of jargon; and give it no more thought. Because it’s not that important, right?

Not exactly.

You see, this is where so many of us get it wrong, and leak piles of cash in the process. Even though we may pay it less attention, our About page is one of our most visited - which makes it low-hanging fruit, just waiting to be plucked.

By which I mean, if your visitors aren’t captivated, bewitched, mesmerized or just plain hungry-for-more after reading your About page, you can grab yourself a hanky and wave them goodbye.

In other words, you just lost a sale.

Because your About page isn’t just about painstakingly-crafted words that make you look good. Your About page is like speed dating

Let me explain.
Jeff Domansky's insight:

Time to rethink your "About" page and make it 10 times more effective.

6 Questions Your Prospects Expect Your Online Presence To Answer | Business 2 Community | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Online analytics can be fascinating. They can provide insight into the quality of your online content, let you know just how engaged your Twitter followers are or simply provide a timely ego boost. However, in amongst all the good news, bad news and insight, there are certain analytics that rarely change.

Wherever you go, from B2B service providers to fashion retailers, the most visited web pages are usually the same. The most visited page on almost every website is the “About” page. No matter what you sell, your website visitors, social media followers and online prospects all want to know about you. More than want to know, they actually expect to get information about you. There are common questions every prospect expects to have answered by your online presence....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

This post flags the importance of your About page and offers six critical questions your website must answer for visitors.

You will undoubtedly find that your company  is doing a great job answering these 6 questions if your organization is effective. Think about it.  Effective organizations have engaged employees, execute very well, are broadly aligned with their purposes and continually adapt to external conditions.  Customer service and product/service innovation will be responsive and timely,  employees will thoroughly understand what the company is all about and how it delivers on its mission; their sincere enthusiasm and dedication will make a strong case for  why customers should care....

Strategy is Delivery | MyVenturePad

Strategy is Delivery | MyVenturePad | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

...Mike explains how he created a new version of the main British government website, GOV.UK, by turning the usual process on its head. Rather than starting with government policy, then ensuring that the digital process was consistent with the analog paper process, and continuing with procurement, he started with the users and what they were seeking to get done at the web site. I would call these user stories, or jobs to be done.

Based on this knowledge of the users’ jobs to be done, he then created a minimum viable product (MVP)of the web site, which he could use to gather feedback. This feedback allowed him to quickly iterate until he had something he could call a beta of the web site. The result was delivery in weeks rather than the usual years....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

When you need to get 'er done start with delivery...Nice case study.

Websites: Is Yours A Tombstone In The Cemetery? How Does Perpetual Care Translate? | PRSA

...Do public relations executives and firms have websites that communicate differentiators instead of clichés, engage their readership (prospective clients for public relations firms and personal branding visibility for public relations professionals) and, most importantly, what is the main objective of a website in an overall digital strategy? My sense is that the website is dying a slow death as a centralized hub for branding. Contributing to this includes the availability of multiple social media platforms and the expense/effort, i.e. perpetual care, required to keep it fresh and up-to-date....

The amount of maintenance or perpetual care required to maintain a “proper,” updated, digital profile is significant. In other words, you must continually post new and fresh content to keep your readers engaged! What can you do to ensure that your investments in perpetually maintaining and updating your online content is “worth it” – that your ROI on all this effort it positive?...

After my article on using neuroscience and psychology to boost your social media marketing, I thought a follow-up was warranted, this time for website and landing page conversions.

The psychology of web design has been a highly tested field, including relaying on triggers to entice users to complete an action. There are several different forces behind human behavior, like the classic FOMO (“fear of missing out”), curiosity, and the use of color to convey a message or feeling.

The following triggers are proven ways to increase action on your website....

OJR gets reboot: Social gets the boots | The PR Coach | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The Online Journalism Review(OJR) has always been a valuable resource for insight into the transition from traditional into digital journalism.

It’s ironic their website relaunch suffers some of the same challenges as traditional media moving to digital....

...I like the new look and several of the new features. What’s baffling is the lack of social media best practices for this “online” journalism review.

What’s missing?...

15+ beautiful blog designs | Webdesigner Depot

15+ beautiful blog designs | Webdesigner Depot | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

There are two main reasons people utilize the web: to share things and to be informed. Sure, we could pick up a newspaper or switch on the television, but I’d argue that it’s much easier to whip out your phone or laptop to find info. The wonderful thing about the web is that you’re never alone. No matter your interests, there’s probably a group of like-minded individuals who have made your interests available online.

The most popular way of doing this is via blogging. With news websites and most blogs, you don’t need a journalism degree, you just need an interest and a passion. Other than specific interests, blogs show their personality in their layouts and designs. Today, we want to showcase some of these wonderful blogs that have amazing and beautiful designs....
