For People to Trust You, Reveal Your Intentions

For People to Trust You, Reveal Your Intentions | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it
In our last blog, we discussed the importance of competence for fostering the trust you need as a manager to influence others.

We stressed that management competence includes not just technical knowledge of the work but operational and political know-how as well.

Here we want to focus on the other great component of trust — character — but by taking a different approach.

So far we've argued that intentions — character — are the foundation of trust, that they must be supported by competence, and that you must take pains to reveal them. But we haven't addressed the question of your intentions themselves. Does it matter what your intentions are?

Yes, of course it does. We don't trust anyone simply because they have clear intentions. Otherwise, we'd trust Hannibal Lector and other villains.

===> People trust us because we have the right intentions, which are those intentions people accept and agree with. What are "the right" intentions? <===

That's not an easy question to answer, especially for a boss, and it's the subject of our next blog.

You Need to Know These Seven Tips If You Build Graphics for E-Learning

You Need to Know These Seven Tips If You Build Graphics for E-Learning | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

If you’re building elearning courses, then you should expect to have a graphics editing program as part of your tool chest. In a previous post I mentioned a few free (or low cost) graphic editors if you don’t already have one.

There’s a difference between having a graphics application and being a professional graphics artist. Many of us work alone and have to do our own graphics. I find that what I do for graphics doesn’t require overly sophisticated skills.

While we may be using different tools, there are some simple graphics editing we should all be able to do. Let’s review a few of the common image editing tasks.

F-secure releases free Flashback removal script for OS X

F-secure releases free Flashback removal script for OS X | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it
The new free tool adds to the growing community effort to help affected Mac users remove the malware from their systems. Read this blog post by Topher Kessler on MacFixIt.

This new tool by F-Secure is another advancement by the Mac community against this threat that accompanies not only manual instructions and help from community members, but also swiftly updated definitions for Sophos, ClamXav, VirusBarrier, and other malware scanners for detecting the malware.

On Apple's end, even though the extent of this infection stemmed largely from Apple's delay in issuing a patch for known Java vulnerabilities, the company finally released the patch and has further announced its own Flashback removal tool is in the works.

It's hope that these, and the continuing efforts by the Apple community, will reduce the prevalence of this infection to a minimum.

Has Flashback malware made you consider installing antivirus on your Mac?

Has Flashback malware made you consider installing antivirus on your Mac? | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it
Hello Mac users, welcome to the problems facing Windows users!

Now Mac users are facing a far more serious threat. Having your Mac as part of a botnet, and having malware on the system that’s sniffing passwords is a big deal indeed, and far scarier than some fake security popup. Flashback is serious malware. Unless you do some digging around on your system, you won’t even know it’s there.

That’s serious. But is it serious enough to get Mac users to protect their Macs?

I hope so, because ===> this incident has highlighted how wide open Mac users are to attacks, and it’s clear that Apple doesn’t have their backs covered. <===

How can parents support children’s internet safety?

The challenge
Many stakeholders are working together to support children’s internet safety, including governments, teachers, industry providers and services, child welfare agencies, parents and children themselves.

Given the Safer Internet Day 2012 theme of Connecting Generations, we ask whether, instead of imposing restrictions, parents can support their children’s internet safety by sharing a positive experience of internet use with their children...

In some cases, manual removal of Sabpab may be needed.

The first PHSprincipalBlog (changed to Director 4/1/2009) post was on 9/18/2007.  (332 posts overall) I have been using Twitter for 4 years, 4 month...

We still have a lot of work to do, but I feel more strongly than ever before that we are willing to meet the challenges to make our learning environments relevant and engaging. We have the unique opportunity to design and build a new school complex that will be both flexible and transparent and able to accommodate learning for today’s world and the challenges of tomorrow.

I AM SO GLAD I STARTED TO BLOG AND TWEET!

Telling Our Stories, Self-Promotion, or Sharing Best Practices?

Telling Our Stories, Self-Promotion, or Sharing Best Practices? | Latest Social Media News | Scoop.it

Jackie Gerstein, Ed.D

This is cross-posted on the Powerful Learning Network – http://plpnetwork.com/2012/04/10/telling-our-stories-self-promotion-or-sharing-best-practices/

This is my response and reaction to Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach’s Unselfish Self Promotion posted on the PLP Network blog. Conceptually, I am in agreement with Sheryl. I discussed similar ideas in a blog post entitled Every Educator Has a Story . . . Just Tell It.

Where I have have difficulties is in the language of self-promotion. I begin with an excerpt of my original blog post and then discuss my thoughts regarding the language surrounding self-promotion.

How I became a convert to Twitter • The teaching and education community on Twitter is truly inspirational...

Twitter is a fantastic collaborative tool. As teachers, how often do we get to visit other schools? In my experience, very rarely. Twitter has enabled me to collaborate with teachers in schools across the country. Combine this with cloud services such as DropBox and Google Docs and you can create and share resources and ideas quickly and easily.

The site is also a great place for discussion. It is amazing how creative you can be in 140 characters. Teachers, academics, technologists and other experts come together on Twitter to chat and discuss a whole range of topics – you can follow and contribute to these discussions by using hash tags.
