July 17 – Barcelona and Manchester United are among a group of clubs punished by UEFA in the latest round of Financial Fair Play sanctions.
Barca have been fined €500,000 for wrongly reporting profits from “disposal of intangible assets” that should not have been accounted for as income according to FFP rules.
United must pay €300,000 for “minor breakeven deficits” for the financial years spanning between 2019 and 2022.

July 31 – Manchester City’s battle with UEFA over alleged financial fair play breaches is back in the spotlight after the German newspaper Der Spiegel, on whose leaked information UEFA originally based their case,  claimed it had fresh evidence showing that  City had lied to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Earlier this month, City won their appeal against a two-year ban from European football when CAS threw out UEFA’s sanction in what was arguably the most significant judgement since FFP was introduced a decade ago.

May 14 – Amid the euphoria of retaining their Premier League title, Manchester City have been brought crashing down to earth with reports that they could be banned from the Champions league – the trophy they crave more than any.
A New York Times report, widely picked up by other media organisations, says UEFA investigators want City thrown out for at least one season if they are found guilty of breaking financial fair play rules by misleading the authorities. Read more …

March 8 – Following claim after claim of financial wrongdoing by Abu Dhabi-owned Manchester City based on information provided by the Football Leaks whistleblowing website, UEFA has finally decided to take action and have opened an investigation into alleged financial fair play violations.
UEFA said the investigation, carried out by its independent club finance panel, “will focus on several alleged violations of FFP that were recently made public in various media outlets” and that it would meanwhile make no further comment. Read more …
