Ashley von Borstel's comment, March 23, 2016 12:11 AM
Wow. Just wow. That is just ridiculous. I can't believe after all this time, women and men are still not completely equal. It's sad that when a woman takes a "mans" job, the pay becomes lower, but if a man is doing a "woman's" job, the pay increases. It's also maddening.

Have you ever tried to convince someone to stop doing a bad thing but they just kept doing it? Well, that's exactly what's been happening to the female rights movement for over a hundred years.

Despite more than a century of women's rights movements and the passing of several important women's rights laws, males still don't view females as truly equal

#YesAllWomen Was Great. Now What? Seriously, Now What? | Dare To Be A Feminist | Scoop.it

A lot of great experiences and insights have been shared via the #YesAllWomen hashtag, and we really loved that females were able to connect in this way. And we’re encouraged that some males were able to gain a deeper understanding of the plight that all females face every day right here in America.

But we can’t overlook one critical fact: thousands of tweets won’t change the status quo that is gender discrimination and the harm it does to everyone—males included—in America.

Del. Mark Cole's legislative aide said he is not planning on introducing the ERA legislation to be heard in the House committee effectively stopping progress on the ERA bill for Virginians and for our nation. This is unacceptable! We need to call and to keep calling Del. Cole and Speaker Howell. Ask them to allow a vote on the ERA bill HJ 12. The Virginia Senate bill passed with bi-partisan support 25-8.

Tell your friends across this nation to call NOW!!!! One man has chosen to stop the path for economic stability for all women in the United States. Remind Delegate Cole and Speaker Howell that the number one issue for women is economic equality and women all across the nation are watching Virginia!

Outcry in Iran after police punish man by dressing him like a woman | The Observers

Outcry in Iran after police punish man by dressing him like a woman | The Observers | Dare To Be A Feminist | Scoop.it
An unusual punishment has shocked many in Iran. On April 15, police paraded a convicted criminal through the northwestern city of Marivan dressed in traditional Kurdish women’s clothing. This has prompted protests in the streets, online, and even in Iran’s parliament. The day after the incident, a local feminist organisation, the Marivan Women’s Community, organised a protest to denounce this punishment -- which was handed down by a local court -- as insulting to Kurdish women. About a hundred men and women attended.

Teach Your Children Well: Men Must Be Leaders in Changing the Culture of Abuse - RH Reality Check

Teach Your Children Well: Men Must Be Leaders in Changing the Culture of Abuse - RH Reality Check | Dare To Be A Feminist | Scoop.it

"A former professional football player argues that with enough men as leaders and partners, we can build a culture in which women and men are safe: safe going to parties, safe speaking up, and safe being whoever they want to be.

...Further, very often the role of girls and women is ornamental to, or in support of, the male experience. In many contexts, sports cheerleaders, swimsuit models, and the like reinforce the deeply-held assumption that women’s social, and often professional, roles are subservient to men. The disparity in wages, especially in an economy that many men view as a meritocracy, is a glaring example of cultural patriarchy in which the goals and aspirations of men are seen as more noble and superior to those of women.

Those of us concerned for these young people, both victim and perpetrators, have a moral obligation to recognize how the messages of our culture are manifest in the behavior of high school boys at a party."
