Unfortunately, some of these women lack a sociological imagination. Others buy into the myth of feminism, ignorant of what the feminist movement has help create the world we have today.
Language is an extremely finicky thing. Much like a snowball, a language picks up habits from the culture that uses it as time goes on, especially our really bad habits like racism, sexism, and homophobia. If a single word is enough to dismiss and disregard an entire population’s feelings, ideas, and humanity, you can imagine why those people would want it erased from society’s vocabulary.
What does it mean when people are less interested in the word “feminism” than they used to be? Dana sees it as a good sign that the equality ideals of feminism are becoming broadly accepted. What do you think?
I'm more certain this has more to do with people, especially young women, not wishing to describe themselves as feminist. I think it's a horrible sign.
