In Alabama, Access to Abortion Through the Entire South Is on Trial

In Alabama, Access to Abortion Through the Entire South Is on Trial | Dare To Be A Feminist | Scoop.it
Abortion is on trial this week in Alabama. Technically speaking, the witnesses are appearing before federal District Judge Myron Thompson to discuss a new state law that requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at local hospitals. That sounds reasonable, I know, but it isn’t, and it’s also...

Marching Mothers - Battered Mothers Custody Conference, Mothers Day 2014

Marching Mothers - Battered Mothers Custody Conference, Mothers Day 2014 | Dare To Be A Feminist | Scoop.it

Deanna Dahlsad's insight:

Another way gender inequality plays in the horror. As @Claudine Dombrowski wrote, "Men who thought they owned women and children began using their superior economic power to hire attorneys and go to family (divorce) courts to get custody. The mothers, having no money for attorneys, were unable to compete on an uneven playing field.  Huge amounts of money began to change hands as a cottage industry of unregulated court-appointed professionals sprang up to provide opinions. Usually the opinions leaned toward the parent with the money."

A Dangerous Ruling in the Bode Miller-Sara McKenna Child Custody Battle Takes Fathers' Rights Way Too Far\ | Dare To Be A Feminist | Scoop.it

I understand that fathers have rights, and I’m all for that. But this ruling took those rights way too far, to the point of dangerousness. It treated a fetus as a child, for purposes of a custody battle. And in doing so, it threatened to limit the rights of a pregnant woman to move and travel.
