Klout Getting Better & Better

Klout Getting Better & Better | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

Marty Note
If you haven't checked your Klout score recently you should. Not just because your Klout score is a good indication on your "ding the universe" mission, but also because the Klout-ers are building some cool tools.

I just used their content scheduler for the first time. I liked the ease of putting 3 Tweets into queue and their content suggestions were excellent. I have to dig around mountains of ants and termites to find content half as good.

Also like their people suggestions. Going to be interesting to see if their people recommendations follow back or if they are so big following back little munchkins (like moi) is beyond them. The recommendations were relevant and cool, so, much like their content suggestions, easy and powerful people to follow suggestions.

The tool is improving at a rapid rate (Kudos) and their focus on EASY and painless is much appreciated. So go check your Klout score and ping me and I will send you Klout Perks or kudos or whatever the hell we trade in there (lol). M

Can You Control A Super Computer With Twitter? Stephen Wolfram Says Sure Tweet-a-Program

Can You Control A Super Computer With Twitter? Stephen Wolfram Says Sure Tweet-a-Program | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

Wouldn't it be great if you could just call up a supercomputer and ask it to do your data-wrangling for you? Actually, scratch that, no-one uses the phone anymore. What'd be really cool is if machines could respond to your queries straight from Twitter. It's a belief that's shared by Wolfram Research, which has just launched the Tweet a Program system to its computational knowledge engine, Wolfram Alpha. In a blog post, founder Stephen Wolfram explains that even complex queries can be executed within the space of 140 characters, including data visualizations.

In the Wolfram Language a little code can go a long way. And to use that fact to let everyone have some fun with the introduction of Tweet-a-Program. Compose a tweet-length Wolfram Language program, and tweet it to @WolframTaP. TheTwitter bot will run your program in the Wolfram Cloud and tweet the result back to you. One can do a lot with Wolfram Language programs that fit in a tweet. It’s easy to make interesting patterns or even complicated fractals. Putting in some math makes it easy to get all sorts of elaborate structures and patterns.

The Wolfram Language not only knows how to compute Ď€, as well as a zillion other algorithms; it also has a huge amount of built-in knowledge about the real world. So right in the language, you can talk about movies or countries or chemicals or whatever. And here’s a 78-character program that makes a collage of the flags of Europe, sized according to country population. There are many, many kinds of real-world knowledge built into the Wolfram Language, including some pretty obscure ones. The Wolfram Language does really well with words and text and deals with images too.

Via Dr. Stefan Gruenwald, Warwick Raverty
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Now THIS is coolest thing I read today. Ever see the great movie 3 Days of the Condor when Robert Redford calls the computer and via a series of commands tracing a phone number. That was COOL. This "tweet-a-program" to control a super computer with 140 characters is awesome.

KUDOS & Thoughts On Scoop.it's 1,000,000th User

KUDOS & Thoughts On Scoop.it's 1,000,000th User | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

Kudos and Thank You
Congratulations to friends at @Scoop.it for reaching 1,000,000 users. I don't know what my number is, but it can't be far from user #1. The story of my use of Scoop.it is fun, full of serendipity and magical.

One day Scoop.it founder Marc Rougier read a post of mine on Scenttrail Marketing (http://www.scenttrail.com/curation-the-next-web-revolution/and suggested I play with Scoop.it in beta. Several years, more than 138,000 views and many great friendships and business partners later THANK YOU seems a tiny thing next to the tremendous value Marc, Guillaume, Alley and the team at Scoop.it created for me :).

Thank You.

The more I use Scoop.it the more this magic wand of a tool feels like WHATS NEXT. Marc read my Curation Is The Next Web Revolution post (http://www.scenttrail.com/curation-the-next-web-revolution/ ) and made one of the best suggestions of my business life when he suggested I play with Scoop.it in early beta.

If curation felt like the next web revolution in early 2011 it feels MORE like that now as we work on creating CrowdFunde (http://www.crowdfunde.com) our #startup we hope is half as helpful as Scoop.it. Oh, and we have NEW FOUND respect for the hardest working engineers in content curation (this creating useful tools is NOT easy :).

Can't measure the importance of learning great content curation from the best in the world (Robin, Jan, Karen, Michele, Brian, Alley, Guilllaume). Feels like I've invested in a stock whose future is assured. Why?

Content curation is the key to content marketing after Mark Schaefer's "Content Shock" (http://www.businessesgrow.com/2014/01/06/content-shock/ ). Mark's important post carries two implications:

* Ability to test content before committing valuable and model owned properties will become a CSF (Critical Success Factor).
* Partnership and community will be how smaller publishers survive the web (i.e. Google's) move toward HUBES.

Scoop.it is a HUGE help with both of "content shock's" remedies. I love Mark's Content Shock post, but the content ship has sailed. We MUST create content. OUR content opens doors to community and THEIR content (User Generated Content UGC where the real gold of the NEW web resides).

Scoop.it's millionth user is an accomplishment, but not as much as creating a community of that size. Community may be the hardest thing to create known to man. There are SO MANY bear traps most who dream of reaching the 1,000,000 mark will fall into one of those traps.

Scoop.it has had moments too. When they eliminated views I was within a day of closing my account. I shared how I use Scoop.it views to know what content is trending. Trending = we should blog about it, so that data is critical to how we use Scoop.it. .

To Guillaume and his team's credit views where back within moments of my sharing how we used the fastest content marketing feedback in the west (lol). Congratulation to friends at Scoop.it for a job well done, for being smart enough to beat the odds and for being great friends, business partners and creative engineers.

Can't wait to see and use what is next. Marty

8 Ways to Get More Google+ Page Followers

8 Ways to Get More Google+ Page Followers | BI Revolution | Scoop.it
Let's face it, Google+ is not going to go away like Google Buzz or MySpace. More and more users are becoming familiar with Google+ and using it every day to connect and communicate.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Not only is G+ not going away in many cases it represents the most disruptive tool out there. Facebook and Twitter are usually red oceans of competitive furor. G+ on the other hand is often a blue ocean waiting to be used.

WHY? Because G+ has a learning curve and it came out at a time when everyone had just about had enough. These days you can never "have enough" (lol) so use these 8 ways to get more G+ followers to your branded pages for the win.

As data visualization expands its reach – through the rise of Massive Online Courses, the countless events and, most significantly, the interconnection between different disciplines and knowledge fields that produce inspiring works and innovative projects -, it’s only natural that the number of folks writing about it keeps rising.

There are literally hundreds of interesting blogs out there, covering all the aspects surrounding the production of quality, effective data visualizations.

Customer Service in the Age of the Internet of Things

Customer Service in the Age of the Internet of Things | BI Revolution | Scoop.it
Say goodbye to the user manual.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

When Things Can Talk
When your refrigerator speaks will anyone be there to listen? In an "Internet of things" where everything that makes our lives easier, better or cooler is online chirping their needs (real and imagined) will we listen?

Before selling my house to help the Story of Cancer Foundation I had a fancy refrigerator that needed a "filter change" about every six weeks. I can imagine that meeting. The meeting where the fridge team said, "Eureka we can create ongoing revenue from FILTERS".

I wasn't as up to speed on buying filters, as I should have been for two reasons:

* Lot of friction in the buying funnel.
* Wasn't convinced of the need.

It wasn't easy to buy those filters, but what if my fridge has a webpage with my credit card and filter frequency. Wouldn't I just say YES to a subscription that would assure I had filters just before the old one died? If the price was right why not.

And the price should be right since if I sign up for a subscription that is projected money in the bank. As part of that subscription why not charge me to update the fridge's operating system every so often. By doing an upgrade across the web my fridge gets more efficient as it sits there without me doing anything other than saying YES.

If this sounds like manufacturers are about to enter our world of Internet marketing you are correct! I've longed stated that the most important communication about any product is online. Now the most important customer satisfaction and ongoing revenue potential will come from any manufacturer's installed base.

If that sounds like a revolution in manufacturing you are also correct. Manufacturers, somewhat insulated from the web now by distributor networks, are going to need to learn social media, email marketing and web design on their own (and fast).

BTW, it isn't just, "An Internet of things," it is a MOBILE Internet of things so manufactures need to skip right over all the lessons they missed and move past GO to land on the Boardwalk of MOBILE Internet marketing.

New Facebook Lookalike Audiences = Segments With Reach

New Facebook Lookalike Audiences = Segments With Reach | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

Facebook lists five ways advertising to similar customers can benefit businesses: fan acquisition, site registration, off-Facebook purchases, coupon claims, and brand awareness. The company says it has been testing lookalike targeting with select businesses for a few weeks now, and the new tool “worked well” both online and offline.

Once businesses get access, they can choose to optimize any type of Facebook ad for “Similarity” or “Greater reach”:

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Segments Plus

We Internet marketers work hard to create personas and segments. I think of personas as ABOUT THEM and segments as ABOUT US. Personas classify customers into banded archetypes. Segments group based on internal metric similarity such as "VIPs", "Multi-Buyers" and Recency Frequency and Monetary groups.

If those segments sound like direct marketing it is because DMers are masters of segmenting. The seesaw is to balance personas or how to talk to THEM in relevant ways with segments or how to make sure the way you speak to THEM is also profitable for YOU.

Segments are internal ideas. You can't segment customers who don't visit your website become a customer (in some way). UNTIL NOW, Facebook's new tool says EXTEND your segments into our data. Cool idea since chances of converting are increased significantly if you already KNOW the segment.

This is because not all segments are equal. If Facbook can identify those potential customers most likely to become multi-buyers that information is VALUABLE.

The value of extending a winning message, offer or design to potential customers who should be positively disposed to any of those things is similar to the way catalog merchants cross index lists. Cool that Facebook has created "lookalike audiences" and should be worth a few bucks to marketers who can extend their segments into the great unknown that seems less unknowable now.

Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com's curator insight, March 19, 2013 9:13 PM

Narrowing down that targeted buyers will save businesses $ in ad spend and make Facebook tons of $$$ as they sell your information. What do you get in return, family photos and a deal on a new pair of shoes.

Take the test so you can be the first at your Dog Park to say, "Yeah my dog is a rebel". Even more valuable is creating appropriate human expectations for "rebel dogs" (like me lol).

Capture THEIR Video on YOUR Website with Vidrack

Capture THEIR Video on YOUR Website with Vidrack | BI Revolution | Scoop.it
Your website visitors can easily record and submit video right on your website. Add a video camera to your website.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Vidrack Is COOL
Imagine you could have a customizable video button on YOUR website that activates and captures video from THEIR (your visitors;) mobile, PC or laptop camera.

Video captured goes to an admin where you approve (so spam or who knows what doesn't make it live all the way out to your website).

Here are some cool uses of a simple, cool technology:

* Q&A - Ask a question and let your customers / visitors record their answers.

* FORM Killer - never ask for a form to b completed again. Just ask people to create a short video sharing the way THEY would like to be contacted.

* Real Time - ask customers to shoot video of your product in use.

* Real Time Promotion - as customers to shoot videos wearing or using your branded merchandise.

* Video Storytelling - create the beginning of a story and ask your customers / visitors to finish it with a video.

* Ask For Content - Let's say you need architecture detail content, ask customers to video their favorite architecture details.

* Ask for Reviews / Feedback - Maybe this tool can do something Amazon struggled to create - video reviews.

* Video Travel - ask customers to share videos from their travel.

* Video Funding - videos already play a big role in crowdfunding, nonprofits should ask visitors to share WHY they support them since others will be moved to do the same.

* Video Conferences - since you can approve videos you can hold a class, ask questions or responses and edit videos submitted to make your point.

* Video Teaching - Your customers may have cool and unique ways to use your product, ask them to share and teach other customers.

* Video Fashion - How do your clothes really look on real people? Ask customers / visitors to create and share what they are wearing today and why.

* Video Commentary - Have a controversy, nothing creates more attention faster online than controversy easy to ramp it up with UGV (User Generated Video).

Could go on and on since THEIR video content is so much more valuable than YOURS. This is a content conclusion I've come to recently. Your content creates legitimacy for your brands and ideas, but THEIR content in the form of reviews, comments or even filled out forms can create social shares.

If there is anything more important than social shares in Internet Marketing today I don't know what it is. If someone clicks on your record button, submits a video almost 100% will follow with social shares if you alert them to their video's approval and publication to your website.

Cool tool.

Scoop.it AND Paper.li More Powerful Together Than Either Alone

Scoop.it AND Paper.li More Powerful Together Than Either Alone | BI Revolution | Scoop.it
Why is Scoop It Kicking Paper Li's Rear End?

Isn't it the same concept? You create your own online newspaper. Why is Scoop It generating so much more…
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Paper.li + Scoopit Better Then Either Alone
This link is to a thread on Google Plus, but it represents a dangerous way of thinking about Internet marketing. There is an active thread about @Scoopit vs. Paper.li in an either or way.

I don't believe in "either or" much. As an Internet marketer I believe in "X and Y" especially when both X and Y provide different benefits. Here is what I just wrote on Google Plus:

"I like the hands on nature of Scoop.it and the hands off nature of Paper.li. Paper.li's model is constructed off of existing followers. Every now and again I tune my Paper.li. I do this by adding and subtracting feeds. I watch the changes for a few days to see if I have the mix I want and then let it play.

Paper.li is HIGHLY DYNAMIC so how I mix my feed salad today is no guarantee of anything tomorrow. At a macro level feeds tend to wobble in the same general space, so there is some predictability about the content mix...some.

I also use the manual Paper.li tool when I want to build specific content into my paper. Paper.li's efficiency has to be greater than Scoop.it due to the feeds, but that efficiency also means the tuning sensitivity isn't as high as a curator's ability to manually curates a Scoop.it magazine.

I know I am more powerful content marketer and curator because I use both Scoop.it and Paper.li. I also know my friends at Small Rivers and Paper.li well enough to know they are working on cool new things as I write this."

Anything I can use to create engagement and advantage needs to be used and these tools compliment each other so much there is no doubt any Internet marketers creations or curation is made stronger by using them in concert with one another.

:).Marty
