The Facebook Conundrum - Does Facebook Make Money?

The Facebook Conundrum - Does Facebook Make Money? | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

The Facebook ROI Mystery
This post combines several recent infographics one from my friend Bill Ross  @LinchpinSEO and another from @JeffBullas to ask a simple yet complex question. Does Facebook make money.

I hate answering questions in the negative, but I can't see other way to answer this one. I called on a piece I wrote over a year ago - Social Media Marketing The Most Important ROI ( http://www.atlanticbt.com/blog/social-media-marketing-the-most-valuable-roi/) to answer in the negative.

What if you DON'T create ROI losing social media marketing? The answer to that question is PAIN and then more PAIN. Even if you've failed 100 times my advice is to fail 100 more times, and to reframe your #SMM discussion.

Ways to Reframe Your SMM ROI Thinking

  • Don't require same ROI from Social as from everything else (go easier).
  • Don't spend less than 10% of your marketing budget on social media.
  • Be generous with conversion funnel attribution (very generous).
  • Don't look for Stimulus - Response curves in social.
  • Invest in social for our FUTURE even if you FAIL now.
  • Failing just means you need to test more.
  • Contests and Games, Games and Contests

Facebook and Social Media Marketing may be a mystery wrapped in an enigma, but stay the course. Keep at it even if it means failiing miserably 100 more times :).

Marty Note
If you have any wonder that your REAL job is creating Holy Smokes content, to quote @JasonFalls, this infographic will clear it up for you. The goal now isn't presence. Presence gets you nothing. The goal is GETTING HEARD and having people actually CARE. BTW, those goals are an order of magnitude more difficult than presence :). Not impossible, just harder.

Visualize Your Data in the Age of Distraction For These 6 Reasons [Infographic] | BI Revolution | Scoop.it

This piece was posted by Loren Sorenson for Hubspot, I selected it because as she says "If you aren’t prepared for the visual content revolution, you may be left in the dust.

Not convinced? Let's take a look at exactly how visual contentis positively contributing to marketing strategies -- it may just give you the push you need

"Learn why visual content is a critical part of your content creation strategy.

Here are some highlights:

**People remember only 20% of what they read

**83% of learning is visual

Condenses and Explains Large Amounts of Information

**Today, there is too much information on the Internet you have about 3 seconds to catch someone’s eyes so they'll consume your information.

Gives Your Brand an Identity

**Visual content draws people in, letting viewers better understand your brand's identity

Drives User Engagement

**If you've ever read a book with a child, you probably know they find pictures more interesting than words; but are adults really that different?

Thanks for looking forward to seeing this info. Knowing you, I can imagine that you want to start another scoopit on this topic but it's not necessary because you're already doing a wonderful job covering it now.

Do You Share Too Much on Social Media? [INFOGRAPHIC]

Do You Share Too Much on Social Media? [INFOGRAPHIC] | BI Revolution | Scoop.it
This infographic examines whether social media users actually share more than is necessary -- or safe -- online.

***** These debates about social around security seem disingenuous. This idea that we are somehow more vulnerable because we tweet doesn’t make sense. Bad things happened before there was social media; so social networks don't create crime. Can criminals use them like they've used ever other technology (cars, guns, hammers)? Of course the answer is yes, but social doesn't create a criminal context as many anti-social critics imply.

Read Tipping Point or Freakonomics or just think and act critically. Does sharing information a priori create crime? No, sharing context is another brick in a criminal dam that would have used other technologies in the past. Does easy access to these new tools increase crime? I think not even as I recognize it may change types of crime committed (more digital attacks than muggings).

What we know beyond any question is some small group will use whatever technology is available for harm. I don't think social sharing increases that set by even a small amount even as I know new technology may arm them differently. Does that mean I should tweet when I'm leaving the house and where my spare key is? Probably not but more because those are boring tweets than that they put me in some immediate danger.
